My name is John Mansfield and I've worked as a Financial Analyst in the Healthcare Industry for over 10 years. This site reflects many of my experiences using Microsoft Excel.

The reasons why I've taken the time to create and maintain this site are:

  • I spend most of my day working with Microsoft Excel. This site serves as a repository for information, innovative techniques, and files that I may need at any time for my job.
  • The weblog has an added advantage over the traditional web site in that weblog entries allow comments. Comments allow me to gather input from experts all around the web. I'm then able to incorporate best practices into my work.
  • As time and workload allows I try to participate in the Microsoft Excel newsgroups. If I can create a unique solution to a newsgroup question, I use this site to document it. If the question is asked again, a link to the weblog entry containing the solution can be povided rather than recreating the answer in the newsgroup.

  • I've learned a lot from other sites around the web. Hopefully this site can be a resource for others.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a permalink?

A permalink is a unique URL that is created with every weblog entry. Wikipedia describes a permalink as "a URL that points to a specific blogging entry even after the entry has passed from the front page into the blog archives."

When you click on the permalink for a specific weblog entry, that entry will be displayed by itself. You can then copy the URL into an email to send the item to someone else or use that URL to link to the item from a web site.

What is ATOM and RSS?

ATOM and RSS (Really Simple Syndication) are XML-based formats for sharing and distributing Web content, such as current news or weblog entries. You can view data feeds from various sources by using an RSS reader.
